Each length of Waterguard Channel includes predrilled drainage holes and is designed to be installed level — not to falls — ensuring a consistent and controlled collection of water around the perimeter. The channel is embedded in a shallow trough filled with 20mm aggregate and held securely against the base of the wall. Wykamol Waterproof Membranes should overlap the channel by at least 100mm to ensure continuity and effectiveness.

Seamless Flow and Modular Adaptability

The Waterguard system is supported by a range of purpose-built connection accessories to allow for seamless flow and easy installation. For instance, Wykamol Waterguard Connector Pieces enable straight joints between channel lengths while helping to inhibit lime build-up and absorb minor movement. At corners, the Wykamol Waterguard Swept Corner Piece provides a smooth 90-degree transition without impeding flow, while its rounded construction reduces debris accumulation and facilitates easier maintenance.

For more complex layouts, the Wykamol Waterguard T Piece enables cross-floor drainage or central connection to a sump chamber using the Wykamol Floor Drain Channel — a flatter conduit designed for mid-floor use or threshold areas where the upstand of standard Waterguard Channel is impractical.

Inspection, Cleaning, and Maintenance Made Simple

Maintaining the long-term functionality of a cavity drain system is critical to preventing failure. To facilitate regular maintenance, Wykamol Jetting Eyes are designed for straightforward inspection and cleaning access. The Wykamol Flexible Jetting Eye is especially useful when slab finishes are being laid, as it allows access without disrupting the floor surface. For extended access and plumbing options, the Wykamol Extended Jetting Eye features a 50mm outlet for pipework and is recommended every 10–12 metres of channel run.

Once water has travelled through the perimeter or floor drainage channel, it must be safely discharged into a sump chamber or external drainage system. The Wykamol Waterguard 50mm Channel End Outlet enables direct connection from the channel into a sump or external outlet, making it a key component of any system designed for sloped sites or pumped discharge.

To complete the system, Wykamol Waterguard End Caps are used to seal off any unused ends of the channel, ensuring that water remains within the drainage pathway and is not allowed to seep into floor structures or voids.

Integrated System Compatibility with Wykamol Membranes

While the Waterguard system manages water at the base of the structure, it works in unison with Wykamol Waterproof Membranes such as CM3, CM8, and CM20, which are applied to the walls and floors. These membranes direct water down to the perimeter or floor channels, creating a fully integrated cavity drain system. Membrane overlaps at the base are sealed using Wykamol Corner Strip Tape and Membrane Sealing Tapes, creating a secure and watertight environment behind internal wall finishes.

The system design allows for membranes to be overlaid on the floor or screeded over if desired, depending on whether full-surface waterproofing or perimeter-only channel drainage is required.
