Newton® Basedrain is the drainage system used most commonly within the Newton® System 500 Waterproofing System.
Newton® waterproofing system compromises of a range of products that collectively receive water ingressing at weaknesses within the structure and then discharge the collected water to a Sump / Pump System or safe drainage (drainage that is below the level of the basement floor that cannot back-up or block).
The 18mm holes drilled in both sides of the profile, as well as to the top surface, allows water from beneath the Newton® Fibran XPS 500-C and within the spacer zone to enter the drainage channels more easily.
Newton® Basedrain: Drainage conduit for the perimeter of the area to be waterproofed. Is situated at the base of the wall membrane
Newton® Floordrain: Drainage Conduit for collection of water at construction joint to the floor and to replace Basedrain at door thresholds. Floordrain is also used to connect the perimeter Basedrain to the sump.
Newton® Basedrain Corner: Formed 90° corner.
Newton® Basedrain T-Piece: Formed T for a 90° connection to Floordrain from Basedrain and for draining through engineering brick as an alternative to open perpendicular joints.
Newton® Jetting Eye: For inspection and maintenance access to the drainage system.
Newton® Drainage Adaptor: Connects to Newton Basedrain / Floordrain to allow connection to natural drainage or to a Sump / Pump System. One end of the adaptor fits into the basedrain and the other is designed to accept 63mm pipe for connection to either a sump and pump unit or a natural drainage point.
Newton® Basedrain Sump Connector: As above (Newton Drainage Adaptor) complete with 63mm Pipe and Sump Connector Piece to connect to Sump Chamber.
Newton® Basedrain Jointing Tape: Used for taping and connecting Newton Basedrain parts together.

Newton® Basedrain is a drainage conduit used for the collection of water at the perimeter of the area to be waterproofed, that is situated at the base of the wall membrane.
The Newton® Basedrain Drainage System used most commonly within the Newton® CDM (System 500) Waterproofing System.
The drainage system comprises of a range of products that collectively receive water ingressing at weaknesses within the structure and then discharge the collected water to a Sump / Pump System or safe drainage (drainage that is below the level of the basement floor that cannot back-up or block).
It is recommended that the Basedrain System be jet washed via the Jetting Eyes, which should be incorporated in the channel system, at least once every six months.
This should be carried out by the installing contractor (under a maintenance contract) or by the property owner. During this cleaning process the pumps (if installed) should also be run with water out of the sump chamber to ensure they are fully operational and that the sump chamber be cleaned of any sludge / silt that may have accumulated.
In addition to this, the high water level battery alarm box and alarm sensor should also checked for working order.
Newton® Floordrain is the Drainage Conduit used for the collection of water at construction joint to the floor and to replace Basedrain at door thresholds.
Floordrain is also used to connect the perimeter Basedrain to the sump.
The Newton® Basedrain 90° Swept Corner Piece connects to Newton® Basedrain / Floordrain to form a 90° corner.
The Newton® Basedrain T-Piece is a formed 'T' for a 90° connection to Floordrain from Basedrain and for draining through engineering brick as an alternative to open perpendicular joints.
The Newton® Basedrain Flexible Jetting Eye is used for the inspection and maintenance of the Basedrain Drainage Conduit.
Jetting Eyes should be incorporated into the Basedrain and can be inserted at any point along its length, to allow for periodic cleaning of the drainage system.
It is recommended that 1 Jetting Eye be fitted for every 10 - 12 linear metre run of channel installed.

One end of the Drainage Adaptor fits into the Basedrain / Floordrains and the other is designed to accept the 63mm pipe for connection to the Sump Chamber.

Newton® Fibran XPS 500-C is a 50mm deep, closed-cell thermal insulation board made from rigid extruded polystyrene foam (XPS).
The product is manufactured in accordance with EN 13164 – “Thermal insulation products for buildings - Factory made products of extruded polystyrene (XPS) specification.“
Newton® Fibran XPS 500-C boards are used to form a 50mm insulated spacer adjacent to the Basedrain and Floordrain Drainage Channels within the 'Newton® System 500' Cavity Drain Waterproofing System.
The insulation boards are rated at 500 kPa and feature specifically designed slots to the underside of the boards, that in combination with the perimeter and spine drainage channels of Newton® System 500 form a fully drained supporting spacer below the floor drainage membrane.
Newton® Fibran XPS 500-C is supplied in Packs of 8 Boards.
Each Board Dimensions: (W) 600mm x (L) 1000mm x (H) 50mm - (0.6m²).

The Basedrain and Floordrain drainage channels that the Insulated Spacer is placed adjacent to, can develop a maximum of 50mm of water pressure when at full capacity. To prevent flotation of the floor the floor build must exert a force (weight) that is greater than 50mm of water pressure.
The weight is calculated by multiplying the density of the floor elements by the height of the floor elements. For example:
65 mm of Screed:Screed density is 1.7. Multiply by the thickness: 1.7 x 65 mm = 110 mm. Weight, of screed is twice the weight of the water pressure.
18 mm of T&G Chipboard:Chipboard density is 0.65. Multiply by the thickness: 0.65 x 18 mm = 11.7 mm. Weight of chipboard is not sufficient. Fibran XPS 500-C boards must be mechanically fixed.
The shrink film should be removed immediately before application of Newton® Fibran XPS 500-C.
Stagger boards and ensure that the drainage slots are lined up to allow for unhindered drainage.
Cut to size with a saw, knife or hot wire device.
The Fibran boards are mechanically fixed to the slab / raft using 90mm Insulation Fixings, 5 fixings per board, one at 100mm in from each corner and one in the centre of the board.

Possible incompatibility with PVC waterproofing membranes.
