Staining Effects on Natural Stone:

Silicone Sealants are made from several raw materials of which Silicone Polymer and Silicone Oil are the two major components.

When a standard silicone is used on Natural Stone, the silicone oil will be released into the Natural Stone causing permanent migratory staining and damage to the stone.

With a specialist Natural Stone compatible silicone (such as this product), the silicone oil is integrated within the polymer, which means it cannot migrate into the stone.

Only Specialist non-staining sealants can be used on Natural Stone without the risk of expensive, long-term damage to the surface.

'Silirub+® S8800' is a Specialist Stone Sealant, and as such is guaranteed not to cause staining.

Application

Typical Applications:

  • Sealing of Joints in all Sanitary Applications such as Bathrooms and Kitchens

  • Sealing of Expansion Joints in Construction.

  • Sealing of Natural Stone Cladding Façades.

  • Sealing in Areas Prone to High Humidity

Surface Preparation:

Surfaces should be clean, dry, free of dust and grease.

Porous surfaces in water loaded applications should be primed with Soudal Primer 150. No primer needed for non-porous substrates.

Joint Dimensions:

  • Minimum Width for Joints: 5 mm

  • Maximum Width for Joints: 30 mm

  • Minimum Depth for Joints: 5 mm

  • Recommendation Sealing Jobs: Joint Width = 2 x Joint Depth.

Remarks:

  • Contact with bitumen, tar or other plasticizer releasing materials such as EPDM, neoprene, butyl, etc. is to be avoided since it can give rise to discolouration and loss of adhesion.

  • The sanitary formula should not replace regular cleaning of the joint. Excessive contamination, deposits or soap remainigs will stimulate the development of fungi.

  • A total absence of UV can cause a colour change of the sealant.

  • In an acid environment or in a dark room, white silicone can slightly turn yellow. Under the influence of sunlight it will turn back to its initial colour.

  • When finished with a finishing solution or soapy solution, make sure that the surfaces are not touched by this solution. This will cause the sealant not to adhere to that surface. Therefore we recommend to only dip the finishing tool in this solution.
