What is Silirub?
Silirub is a high quality building sealant that can be used for various kinds of joints in buildings, glazings, PVC, Timber, metal and glass. Silirub is also resistant to moisture and ageing so can be effective for long periods of time.
Surfaces should be clean, dry, free of dust and grease.
Porous surfaces in water loaded applications should be primed with Soudal Primer 150. No primer needed for non-porous substrates.
Not suitable for use on PVC. Use a Neutral Cure Silicone instead (i.e Soudal Stay Fresh).
There is no adhesion on PE, PP, PTFE (Teflon®) and bituminous substrates. We recommend a preliminary compatibility test.
Application Method: With a Caulking Gun.
Cleaning: Clean with a Surface Cleaner immediately after use.
Finishing: With a Soapy Solution before skinning. Tool sealant with Soudaglatt Smoothing Tool for a smooth finish.
Repair: With the same material
Coverage of any sealant product varies depending on Joint Width and Joint Depth.
Please refer to our Guide on How To Measure The Number of Tubes Required For the Job.
Minimum Width for Joints: 5 mm
Maximum Width for Joints: 30 mm
Minimum Depth for Joints: 5 mm
Recommendation Sealing Jobs: Joint Width = 2 x Joint Depth.
Because of the acid nature, certain metals (eg copper, lead) can be affected.
Do not use on natural stones like marble, granite etc. as it may cause staining.
Direct contact with the secondary sealing of insulating glass units (insulation) and the PVB-film of safety glass must be avoided.
The sanitary formula should not replace regular cleaning of the joint. Excessive contamination, deposits or soap remainigs will stimulate the development of fungi.
A total absence of UV can cause a colour change of the sealant.
In an acid environment or in a dark room, white silicone can slightly turn yellow. Under the influence of sunlight it will turn back to its initial colour.
When finished with a finishing solution or soapy solution, make sure that the surfaces are not touched by this solution. This will cause the sealant not to adhere to that surface. Therefore we recommend to only dip the finishing tool in this solution.
We strongly recommend not to apply the product in full sunlight as it will dry very fast.
Do not use in applications where continuous water immersion is possible.
Do not use on polycarbonate. Use Silirub AL2T instead.
