Soudal Silirub A

Soudal Silirub A is formulated as a general purpose acetoxy cure silicone sealant, providing high performance in a wide range of applications. With its high-quality composition, Silirub A ensures ease of application, excellent adhesion, and lasting elasticity after curing.

One of the key features of Silirub A is its exceptional adhesion on traditional materials, allowing for primerless application in various scenarios. This versatile sealant can be safely used on glass, ceramic, porcelain, metals, stainless steel, and wood, making it an ideal choice for professionals in the construction, glazing, and sanitary industries.

Silirub A stands out for its impressive resistance to weathering, chemicals, and extreme temperatures, ensuring long-lasting protection and sealing. It boasts outstanding colourfastness and UV resistance, maintaining its visual appeal even in outdoor applications exposed to sunlight. Moreover, the inclusion of DCOIT, a biocide with fungicidal action, makes Silirub A impervious to mould growth, ensuring sanitary applications remain clean and hygienic.

The product's acetoxy cure formulation ensures reliable and efficient curing. Once fully cured, Silirub A exhibits permanent elasticity, accommodating movement and vibration without compromising its sealing effectiveness. This property makes it an excellent choice for applications with dynamic stresses or where flexibility is vital.

Product Benefits:

  • Very Easy to Apply: Silirub A is designed for effortless application, ensuring smooth and accurate results. Its consistency and flow properties make it easy to work with, reducing the time and effort needed for sealing applications.

  • Colourfast and UV Resistant: With excellent colorfastness and UV resistance, Silirub A maintains its appearance even when exposed to sunlight or other harsh outdoor conditions. This feature is particularly beneficial for glazing and construction applications where aesthetics play a crucial role.

  • Impervious to Mould: Silirub A contains DCOIT, a powerful biocide with fungicidal action, ensuring resistance to mould growth. This makes it a perfect choice for sanitary applications and areas with high humidity, such as kitchens and bathrooms.

  • Permanent Elasticity: Once cured, Silirub A retains its elasticity, allowing for seamless movement and vibration absorption without compromising its sealing properties. This ensures optimal performance and longevity of the seal.

  • Acetoxy Cure Silicone: Silirub A's acetoxy cure formulation ensures reliable and efficient curing, guaranteeing a durable and long-lasting seal.

  • Primerless Adhesion on Traditional Materials: Silirub A provides exceptional adhesion on various traditional materials such as glass, ceramic, porcelain, metals, stainless steel, and wood, eliminating the need for primers in most applications.

  • S1 Fungicide: Silirub A incorporates an S1 fungicide, further enhancing its resistance to mould and ensuring a hygienic environment in sanitary applications.

Typical Applications:

  • Sanitary Applications: Silirub A is the ideal choice for sealing in bathrooms and kitchens, as well as other high-humidity areas. It can be used for sealing all types of sanitary ware, including baths, basins, showers, toilets, and glazed tile surrounds.

  • Glazing: Silirub A is suitable for glass-to-glass sealing joints, top sealing of traditional glass and aluminum joints, and perimeter sealing of wooden window and door frames. Its lasting elasticity ensures a reliable and aesthetically pleasing seal.

  • Construction Applications: Silirub A can be applied in various construction projects, including sealing industrial applications such as coated metals, anodized aluminum, and stainless steel. It provides durable and flexible seals that withstand continuous stresses and environmental conditions.

  • Industrial Applications: Silirub A becomes indispensable in sealing HVAC ducting, pipework, and drainage joints, offering a reliable and long-lasting solution for demanding industrial environments.

  • General Maintenance: Beyond construction and industrial applications, Silirub A finds its use in general maintenance, providing effective sealing for cars, caravans, mobile homes, and boats. Its resistance to weathering, chemicals, and extreme temperatures ensures reliable performance in various settings.

Substrate Suitability:

Soudal Silirub A adheres superbly to most common building substrates, including glass, ceramic, porcelain, metals, stainless steel, and wood. However, it is not suitable for use on PVC surfaces.

Please note that Silirub A does not provide adhesion on PE, PP, PTFE (Teflon®), and bituminous substrates. We strongly recommend conducting a preliminary compatibility test before applying the sealant to ensure the best results.

Surface Preparation:

To achieve a secure and long-lasting bond, it is crucial to prepare the surfaces properly.

Before applying Soudal Silirub A, make sure the surfaces are clean, dry, and free of dust and grease. For porous surfaces in water-loaded applications, it is essential to prime the surface with Soudal Primer 150.

However, non-porous substrates do not require a primer. Proper surface preparation ensures optimal adhesion and a reliable seal.

Application Method:

Using a caulking gun allows for fast and efficient application of Soudal Silirub A. Follow these step-by-step instructions for the best results:

  1. Cut the nozzle of the cartridge at a 45-degree angle to the desired size. This angle helps control the bead size during application.

  2. Load the cartridge into the caulking gun, ensuring it is securely in place.

  3. Apply consistent pressure on the trigger of the caulking gun to dispense the sealant. Direct the nozzle tip into the joint, filling the gap completely with the silicone sealant.

  4. For optimal results, it is recommended to spray the surface with a soapy solution just before the sealant begins to skin. This step enables easy smoothing of the sealant and ensures a smooth and professional finish.

Finishing:

Once the sealant is applied, it can be smoothly finished using the Soudaglatt Smoothing Tool or a similar tool of your choice. Simply run the tool smoothly along the sealant line to create an even finish.

If a smoothing tool is not available, a wetted finger can be used to achieve a similar effect. Perform the finishing process before the sealant begins to skin, ensuring a neat and tidy appearance.

Coverage of any sealant product varies depending on Joint Width and Joint Depth.

Please refer to our Guide on How To Measure The Number of Tubes Required For the Job.

Joint Dimensions:

  • Minimum Width for Joints: 5mm

  • Maximum Width for Joints: 30mm

  • Minimum Depth for Joints: 5mm

  • Recommendation Sealing Jobs: Joint Width = 2 x Joint Depth.

Cleaning:

Uncured product can be easily cleaned using Soudal Swipex Cleaning Wipes. For cured sealant, it should be removed mechanically with the aid of Soudal Sealant Remover or Soudal Silicone Remover Gel.

Follow the instructions provided with Soudal Sealant Remover Spray for effective removal.

Remarks:

  • Because of the acid nature, certain metals (eg copper, lead) can be affected.

  • Do not use on natural stones like marble, granite etc. as it may cause staining.

  • Direct contact with the secondary sealing of insulating glass units (insulation) and the PVB-film of safety glass must be avoided.

  • The sanitary formula should not replace regular cleaning of the joint. Excessive contamination, deposits or soap remainings will stimulate the development of fungi.

  • A total absence of UV can cause a colour change of the sealant.

  • In an acid environment or in a dark room, white silicone can slightly turn yellow. Under the influence of sunlight it will turn back to its initial colour.

  • When finished with a finishing solution or soapy solution, make sure that the surfaces are not touched by this solution. This will cause the sealant not to adhere to that surface. Therefore we recommend to only dip the finishing tool in this solution.

  • We strongly recommend not to apply the product in full sunlight as it will dry very fast.

  • Do not use in applications where continuous water immersion is possible.

  • Do not use on polycarbonate. Use Soudal Aquafix - All Weather Sealant instead.
