Wykamol Surface Treatments

Platinum Chemicals supply a range of Wykamol Surface Treatments such as Water Repellents and Damp Proof Coatings for use on concrete and brickwork.

Water Repellent

Water Repellents are used to treat the effects cased by Penetrating Damp. Penetrating Damp (or Rain Penetration) can occur in buildings of all ages. This is where moisture soaks into the masonry and penetrates right through the wall causing noticeable damp patch on the internal wall. This often results in paintwork or wallpaper to discolour, peel and / or flake.

Penetrating Dampness caused by rainwater can also be damaging to a property, even if it does not penetrate fully through the wall. Other problems such as increased heat loss, frost damage and even moss growth can be caused by rainwater penetration.

Rain penetration is not a problem that is restricted to single-skin walls. Poorly installed wall-ties or cavity wall insulation can provide a route for rainwater and moisture through cavity walls.

In many cases, rain penetration is caused by poorly designed or maintained building details (e.g. blocked downpipes or leaking gutters) causing substantial volumes of rainwater to flow over a small section of masonry. In these cases, the penetrating damp can usually be cured by rectifying the fault.

In other cases though, rain penetration can be caused by the masonry wall not being weathertight enough to withstand local weather conditions. Often the weathertightness of the masonry can be improved using external render, cladding, or weatherproof paints. However these solutions all change the visual appearance of the masonry.

Our range of breathable Wykamol Water Repellents offer a solution in situations where there is a desire to maintain the visual appearance of the wall being treated.

Surfaces treated with our products remain permeable to vapour so that moisture within the structure does not remain trapped.

Note: Our range of Water Repellents are only intended to block rain penetration through the pores of the masonry. Cracks in masonry will have to be filled or repaired. Faulty mortar should be re-pointed using a suitable sand / cement or sand / lime mix incorporating a Re-pointing Additive.

Damp Proof Paint

Here at Platinum Chemicals, we supply a range of liquid-applied damp proof paint products including Technoseal DPM, and EP40 Epoxy Floor Coating.

These damp proof paint products are specifically used to resist water penetration in walls and floors.

Technoseal DPM is a Highly Advanced SBR Latex-based liquid-applied damp proof paint membrane. Technoseal DPM offers a simple method for many water proofing and vapour proofing applications.

EP40 Epoxy Floor Coating is a water-based damp proof paint, two-pack Epoxy Resin Floor Coating System with excellent adhesion to many surfaces providing a hard wearing, dust-free finish.
