Compatibility with Glass:

Soudal Silirub LMN is not suitable for contact with secondary sealant of insulating glass units.

Soudal Silirub LMN is not suitable for applications in direct contact with PVB films of laminated glass, for this we recommend to use Silirub 2.

Substrate Suitability:

Soudal Silirub LMN adheres superbly to most common building substrates, including PVC, glass, ceramic, porcelain, metals, stainless steel, and wood.

Please note that Silirub LMN does not provide adhesion on PE, PP, PTFE (Teflon®), and bituminous substrates. We strongly recommend conducting a preliminary compatibility test before applying the sealant to ensure the best results.

Surface Preparation:

To achieve a secure and long-lasting bond, it is crucial to prepare the surfaces properly.

Before applying Soudal Silirub LMN, make sure the surfaces are clean, dry, and free of dust and grease. For porous surfaces in water-loaded applications, it is essential to prime the surface with Soudal Primer 150.

However, non-porous substrates do not require a primer. Proper surface preparation ensures optimal adhesion and a reliable seal.

Application Method:

Using a caulking gun allows for fast and efficient application of Soudal Silirub LMN. Follow these step-by-step instructions for the best results:

  1. Cut the nozzle of the cartridge at a 45-degree angle to the desired size. This angle helps control the bead size during application.

  2. Load the cartridge into the caulking gun, ensuring it is securely in place.

  3. Apply consistent pressure on the trigger of the caulking gun to dispense the sealant. Direct the nozzle tip into the joint, filling the gap completely with the silicone sealant.

  4. For optimal results, it is recommended to spray the surface with a soapy solution just before the sealant begins to skin. This step enables easy smoothing of the sealant and ensures a smooth and professional finish.

Finishing:

Once the sealant is applied, it can be smoothly finished using the Soudaglatt Smoothing Tool or a similar tool of your choice. Simply run the tool smoothly along the sealant line to create an even finish.

If a smoothing tool is not available, a wetted finger can be used to achieve a similar effect. Perform the finishing process before the sealant begins to skin, ensuring a neat and tidy appearance.

Coverage of any sealant product varies depending on Joint Width and Joint Depth.

Please refer to our Guide on How To Measure The Number of Tubes Required For the Job.

Joint Dimensions:

  • Minimum Width for Joints: 5mm

  • Maximum Width for Joints: 30mm

  • Minimum Depth for Joints: 5mm

  • Recommendation Sealing Jobs: Joint Width = 2 x Joint Depth.

Cleaning:

Uncured product can be easily cleaned using Soudal Swipex Cleaning Wipes. For cured sealant, it should be removed mechanically with the aid of Soudal Sealant Remover or Soudal Silicone Remover Gel.

Follow the instructions provided with Soudal Sealant Remover Spray for effective removal.

Remarks:

  • Do not use on natural stones like marble, granite etc... as it may cause staining.

  • Direct contact with the secondary sealing of insulating glass units (insulation) and the PVB-film of safety glass must be avoided.

  • A total absence of UV can cause a colour change of the sealant.

  • In an acid environment or in a dark room, white silicone can slightly turn yellow. However, under the influence of sunlight it will turn back to its initial colour.

  • We strongly recommend not to apply the product in full sunlight as it will dry very fast.

  • When finished with a finishing solution or soapy solution, make sure that the surfaces are not touched by this solution. This will cause the sealant not to adhere to that surface. Therefore we recommend to only dip the finishing tool in this solution.

  • Do not use in applications where continuous water immersion is possible.

  • Not suitable for use on Polycarbonate, instead use Soudal Aquafix All Weather Sealant.
