As a synthetic pyrethroid, Permethrin serves as an effective insecticide, particularly targeting wood-boring insects like woodworm. It operates by disrupting the nervous systems of these pests, leading to their swift eradication. This action is crucial for protecting wood from damage caused by insect infestation, thus preserving both its structural integrity and appearance.
Commonly referred to as IPBC, this compound is a widely used fungicide and biocide. Its primary role in wood preservation is to combat and prevent wood discolouring fungi and other organisms that lead to decay. By doing so, IPBC plays a significant part in maintaining the wood's structural strength and its aesthetic quality, ensuring that it remains free from unsightly fungal growth and the deterioration it can cause.
Tebuconazole is a triazole class fungicide known for its broad-spectrum efficacy against various fungi, particularly those responsible for wood decay. By inhibiting the growth and reproduction of fungal cells, Tebuconazole provides a robust shield for the wood, safeguarding it against rot and decay. This protection is essential for prolonging the life of the wood and preserving its natural qualities over time.
Prior to using ACS Lignotec Woodworm & Rot Treatment, it is essential to follow proper safety protocols. Personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, safety glasses, and a mask, should be worn throughout the application process to minimise exposure to the product.
Maintain usual hygiene standards by washing hands after use and avoiding skin contact. For further information on safe handling, consult the product label and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS). Additional guidance on PPE can be found in our Safety & PPE Products section.
ACS Lignotec is designed for a range of surfaces, including bare timber, masonry, and even some metal applications. It is particularly effective as a treatment for woodworm, rot, and surface algae, making it suitable for both interior and exterior applications.
However, ACS Lignotec must be applied to an absorbent surface to ensure optimal effectiveness; any existing paint, varnish, or non-absorbent finishes should be removed to allow the product to penetrate the material effectively.
For bare timber and masonry surfaces, all areas should be cleaned and free of oil, grease, and organic growth. Silvered or weathered timber should be lightly abraded to remove degraded layers and expose fresh wood fibres for better absorption. When treating masonry, brush the surface to remove dust, debris, and any loose particles. It is also essential to repair any visible cracks or defects in the masonry before applying the product.
For previously painted timber and masonry surfaces, ACS Lignotec requires a bare, absorbent surface. Carefully remove any existing paint, varnish, or non-porous coatings. Special care should be taken when stripping older paints, as these may contain lead. Once the surface is bare, thoroughly brush it to eliminate dust and ensure a clean substrate.
Shake or stir ACS Lignotec thoroughly before use. It is important not to dilute the product, as it is designed to be applied in its original concentration. Apply two coats of ACS Lignotec to the prepared surface, using a sprayer, brush, or roller. A third coat may be applied if additional protection is desired or if the surface is highly absorbent. When treating timber, apply the product along the grain to ensure even distribution.
For both wood and masonry, the number of coats required may vary depending on the material’s porosity. Always allow the first coat to penetrate before applying the second to achieve optimal absorption. Take care to avoid oversaturation, which can lead to run-off or pooling on the surface.
The recommended application rate for ACS Lignotec is approximately 200ml per m². A one-litre container should cover around 5m² of timber or masonry, depending on the material’s porosity and the specific conditions of the application.
This ensures a thorough treatment for protection against woodworm, decay fungi, and surface algae.
Once the final coat of ACS Lignotec has dried, it can be over-coated with a suitable topcoat to enhance long-term protection and aesthetic finish.
For timber surfaces, ACS HydroBar Woodbead provides an excellent complementary topcoat.
For masonry, consider using Wykamol Enviroseal or Wykamol Dryseal Masonry Cream for additional weatherproofing.
Most commercial stains, paints, and varnishes are compatible with ACS Lignotec; however, it is advisable to test a small area first to ensure compatibility before full application. Allow the treatment to dry for approximately 4-6 hours; however, for best results, wait 24 hours before applying any topcoats.
After application, clean all tools and equipment with water. If using a sprayer, thoroughly flush it with water to prevent clogging and ensure it is ready for future use.
Dispose of any residual product and cleaning water responsibly, in accordance with local waste disposal regulations.
