Purpose-Designed Sealed Fixing Plugs For Wykamol Cavity Drain Membrane Systems
Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals are purpose-designed fixing plugs developed for use with Wykamol waterproof cavity drain membrane systems, where their primary function is to secure Wykamol basement wall membranes to retaining structures such as brick, concrete, stone and other suitable masonry backgrounds. In below-ground waterproofing applications, fixing points must always be treated with care, as each drilled hole through the membrane can become a genuine weak point if it is not correctly sealed against water ingress. The fitted rubber sealing washer on the Wykamol CM Brick Plug compresses firmly against the membrane face when the plug is driven fully home, helping to form a reliable watertight fixing detail that is well suited to all cavity drain membrane installations requiring a sealed mechanical fixing.
Rubber Sealed 10mm x 60mm Plug With Threaded Core For Secondary Fixings
Each Wykamol CM Brick Plug measures 10mm by 60mm and is installed through a membrane stud into the substrate, with the soft sprung rubber washer creating a compressed and dependable seal between the plug head and the membrane face once fully driven into position. The plug is well suited to securing Wykamol CM8, CM3 and CM8 Mesh Membranes in waterproofing applications where the membrane must remain firmly held to the wall without compromising the water management layer behind. The plug also includes a central core that accepts 5mm size 10 threaded screws, allowing battens, ply board, wall ties, dry-lining frames and tracking to be fixed back through the plug itself, helping to preserve the waterproof layer behind the internal finish without increasing the number of membrane penetrations.
Recommended Fixing Densities For Meshed And Non-Meshed Wykamol Membranes
Fixing density varies depending on the membrane type and the intended internal finish being applied over the system. For non-meshed membranes, where the membrane simply needs to be held securely to the substrate before independent internal finishes are installed, approximately 5 plugs per square metre is normally sufficient. For meshed membranes, approximately 15 plugs per square metre at around 250mm centres is generally required, as the membrane must be held much more tightly against the wall to properly support plastering, rendering or dot and dab plasterboard applications. The final fixing layout should always take full account of the substrate condition, membrane type, chosen wall finish and the specific requirements of the project waterproofing specification.

Each plug measures 10mm in diameter x 60mm long and is supplied with a fitted rubber sealing washer. Once hammered into a 10mm drilled hole through a membrane stud and into the wall, the washer compresses against the membrane to form a watertight seal around the fixing point. The plug also has a central core that accepts 5mm size 10 threaded screws, allowing battens, ply board, wall ties, tracking and dry-lining systems to be fixed without creating additional membrane penetrations.
Q) What membranes are Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals compatible with?
A) Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals are specifically designed for use with Wykamol cavity drain membrane systems. They are commonly used with Wykamol CM8 Membrane and Wykamol CM3 Membrane in below-ground wall waterproofing applications, and with Wykamol CM8 Mesh Membrane where a strong sealed fixing is required before plastering, rendering or dry-lining. In more demanding basement applications, they can also be used with Wykamol CM3 Mesh where a heavier duty water-sealed fixing is preferred over lighter Wykamol CM Plaster Plugs. The plug provides the correct sealed fixing detail for each of these membrane types, helping maintain waterproofing integrity at every fixing point throughout the cavity drain system installation.
Q) Where can Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals be used in waterproofing work?
A) Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals are designed for a range of below-ground waterproofing and internal membrane fixing applications. Typical uses include securing cavity drain membranes to retaining walls in basement waterproofing systems, cellar tanking and refurbishment projects, and fixing Wykamol CM8, CM3, CM8 Mesh and selected CM3 Mesh membranes to masonry substrates. They are well suited to brick and blockwork substrates, concrete retaining walls, and stone and mixed masonry walls, provided the background is sound enough to accept a drilled fixing. The plug core also allows batten, ply board, tracking and dry-lining support, making them useful throughout the internal finishing build-up of basement conversions and cavity drain waterproofing installations.
Q) When should Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals be used instead of Wykamol CM Plaster Plugs?
A) Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals should be used instead of Wykamol CM Plaster Plugs whenever a heavier duty, water-sealed fixing is required in below-ground or more demanding waterproofing applications. The Brick Plugs & Seals incorporate a fitted rubber sealing washer that compresses against the membrane face to create a watertight detail at each fixing point, making them specifically suited to cavity drain basement waterproofing where sealed fixings are essential. Plaster Plugs are lighter duty options more appropriate for above-ground or less demanding damp proofing applications. For basement environments involving CM3 Mesh or CM8 Mesh membranes where increased moisture risk, water pressure or membrane continuity requirements demand a more robust and reliably sealed fixing, the Brick Plugs & Seals are the correct specification.
Q) What are the main advantages of Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals?
A) Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals offer a strong combination of practical advantages for cavity drain membrane installations. The fitted rubber sealing washer provides a watertight seal at each fixing point, protecting membrane continuity in below-ground waterproofing work. They are compatible with CM8, CM3, CM8 Mesh and selected CM3 Mesh membranes, providing consistent specification across the Wykamol range. The central plug core accepts 5mm size 10 screws for secondary batten, ply board and dry-lining fixings without additional membrane penetrations. The 10mm x 60mm plug provides secure mechanical anchorage into brick, concrete, stone and masonry. The integrated washer removes the need for a separate sealing component during installation, supporting a consistent and efficient sealed fixing detail throughout the project.
Q) What technical specifications do Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals have?
A) Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals measure 10mm in diameter by 60mm in length and are installed into a 10mm drilled hole formed through the membrane stud and into the masonry substrate. Each plug is supplied with a fitted soft sprung rubber sealing washer that compresses against the membrane face as the plug is driven fully home with a club hammer. The central hollow core accepts 5mm size 10 threaded screws, allowing secondary fixings for battens, ply board, wall ties and dry-lining without creating additional penetrations through the membrane. The recommended fixing density is approximately 5 plugs per m² for non-meshed membranes and approximately 15 plugs per m² at around 250mm centres for meshed membranes.
Q) What fixing density is recommended for Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals?
A) The recommended fixing density for Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals depends on the membrane type and intended finish. For non-meshed membranes, where the membrane only needs to be held securely to the substrate before independent internal finishes are installed, approximately 5 plugs per m² is normally sufficient. For meshed membranes, approximately 15 plugs per m² at around 250mm centres is generally required, as the membrane must be held tightly against the wall to support plastering, rendering or dot and dab plasterboard. The final fixing layout should always take account of the substrate condition, membrane type, wall finish and the project waterproofing specification, as project-specific requirements may vary from these indicative figures.
Q) How are Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals installed correctly?
A) To install Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals correctly, first confirm the masonry substrate is sound and the Wykamol membrane is correctly positioned and aligned. Select a membrane stud as the fixing location and use a 10mm drill bit to drill through the stud centre and into the wall substrate to a suitable depth. Push the plug into the hole with the rubber sealing washer positioned against the membrane face, ensuring the plug sits squarely before hammering begins. Drive the plug fully home using a club hammer until it is completely seated. As the plug is driven in, the rubber washer compresses against the membrane to form the watertight seal. After installation, confirm the plug is secure, fully seated and the washer has compressed evenly against the membrane face.
Q) How does the rubber sealing washer on Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals work?
A) The soft sprung rubber sealing washer on Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals is fitted around the plug head and creates a watertight seal around the fixing penetration. When the plug is driven fully home into the drilled hole, the washer is compressed between the plug head and the face of the cavity drain membrane. This compression forces the rubber to conform tightly against the membrane surface, closing off any path for water or moisture to pass through the fixing point. The pre-fitted washer design ensures correct positioning on every plug before installation, removing the need for a separate sealing step and supporting a consistent, reliable watertight detail at each membrane fixing location throughout the installation.
Q) What secondary fixings can be made through Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals?
A) Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals accept 5mm size 10 threaded screws through the central hollow core, providing ready-made anchor points for secondary fixings without creating additional penetrations through the waterproof membrane. Battens, ply board, wall ties, tracking and dry-lining frames can all be fixed into the plug core, allowing internal finishing systems to be constructed in front of the membrane while preserving the waterproofing layer behind. This dual function is particularly useful in basement conversions and cellar refurbishments where maintaining membrane continuity behind internal finishes is critical. Secondary fixings through the plug core should be limited to 5mm size 10 screws, and heavier loads should be assessed separately against the system design and membrane specification.
Q) Are there practical tips for getting the best results when installing Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals?
A) For the best results when installing Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals, always fix through the centre of a membrane stud to ensure the rubber washer seats correctly against the membrane face. Keep the drill bit straight during hole formation to avoid tearing the membrane or enlarging the hole beyond 10mm. Position each plug squarely in the hole before hammering to ensure even washer compression on all sides. Drive each plug fully home and confirm it is completely seated and not proud of the membrane surface after installation. For secondary fixings, always use 5mm size 10 screws through the plug core rather than drilling additional holes through the membrane. Plan the fixing density in advance to ensure adequate coverage across the full membrane area.
Q) What are the limitations of Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals?
A) Wykamol CM Brick Plugs & Seals have several important limitations to be aware of. They are specifically designed for Wykamol cavity drain membrane fixing applications and are not suitable for general-purpose fixing work. The watertight seal depends entirely on the rubber washer being correctly compressed against the membrane face, so partially installed plugs, misaligned fixings or plugs that are not fully driven home can compromise the waterproofing detail at that point. The plug requires a sound masonry substrate to achieve adequate mechanical anchorage, and loose, severely deteriorated or crumbling backgrounds must be repaired before installation. Secondary fixings are limited to 5mm size 10 screws. The fixing must always be made through a membrane stud to ensure the washer seats correctly and performs as intended.

Secondary fixings are limited to 5mm size 10 screws. The fixing must always be made through a membrane stud to ensure the washer seats correctly and performs as intended.
