Plasterable Membrane Tape For Sealed Internal Finishes

Platon Mesh Tape is a specialist self-adhesive membrane tape designed for use where waterproof or damp proof membranes will receive a direct plaster or render finish. In these systems, the membrane joint must be sealed securely, but it must also provide a surface that allows the finishing material to bond properly across the seam. Platon Mesh Tape achieves this by combining a butyl rubber backing with a textured polypropylene fleece face. The butyl backing provides adhesion to the membrane and helps seal the joint, while the fleece surface provides the key required for plaster and render to grip over the joint area.

Textured Fleece Key For Reliable Plaster And Render Adhesion

The fleece face is the key feature that separates Platon Mesh Tape from plain butyl sealing tapes such as Platon Sealing Tape or Platon Corner Strip Tape. Plain butyl tapes are designed to seal, but they do not provide a surface suitable for direct plastering or rendering. Platon Mesh Tape is used where the joint must be integrated into the finished internal wall surface, helping reduce weak points where plaster or render could crack, debond or fail over the seam. It is primarily intended for meshed membranes, like Platon PB2 Mesh, where the fleece surface works with the membrane face to provide a continuous finishing key across the joint.

100mm Tape For Meshed And Plaster Base Membrane Details

Platon Mesh Tape is supplied in 100mm wide x 10m long rolls, providing suitable coverage across membrane joints and detailing areas. It is commonly used over butted joints between adjoining meshed membrane sheets (i.e Platon PB2 Mesh Membrane), helping seal the joint while allowing the fleece face to carry plaster or render across the seam. It can also be used as an overtape where a joint has already been sealed with Platon Sealing Tape, Platon Sealing Rope or Platon Corner Strip Tape, reinstating a suitable finishing key above the sealed detail. It is also suitable for use with Platon Plaster Base Membrane, a non-meshed membrane with undercut dovetail-shaped studs designed to provide a physical key for plaster, render or plasterboard on adhesive dabs.
