Purpose-Designed Sealed Fixing Plugs For Platinum Cavity Basement Membrane Systems
Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs are purpose-designed membrane fixing plugs developed primarily for use with the Platinum Waterproof Membrane System, where their primary function is to secure Platinum cavity basement wall membranes to a retaining structure whilst reducing the risk of water or damp passing through each fixing penetration. In below-ground waterproofing applications, every drilled fixing point must be treated with care, as an unsealed fixing can compromise the continuity of the cavity drain membrane system and create a weak point in the overall waterproofing installation. The fitted rubber sealing washer addresses this directly by compressing firmly against the face of the membrane when the plug is fully driven home, creating a dependable watertight seal around each individual plug head.
Rubber Sealed 10mm x 60mm Plug With Secondary Fixing Capability
Each Platinum Waterseal Brick Plug measures 10mm by 60mm and is installed through a membrane stud into suitable brick, concrete, stone or other masonry substrates, with the soft sprung rubber washer compressing between the plug head and the membrane face to help prevent damp or water ingress at every fixing point. The plug also features a central hole that accepts 5mm size 10 threaded screws, allowing suitable ancillary items to be fixed back to the wall without the need to drill additional holes through the membrane itself. Battens, ply board, wall ties, tracking and affixed dry-lining systems can therefore be attached through the existing plug positions, helping preserve the continuity of the waterproof layer behind the completed internal finish throughout the life of the installation.
Widely Compatible With Platinum Newton Platon And Wykamol Membrane Systems
Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs are designed primarily for use across the Platinum Waterproof Cavity Membrane range, including Platinum CV8, Platinum CV3 and Platinum CV8 Mesh waterproofing membranes, and are also suitable for use with Platinum Damp Proof Membrane products such as Platinum PM3 and Platinum DM3 where a heavier duty, water-sealed fixing is preferred. Beyond the Platinum range, they can be used universally with a broad selection of compatible waterproofing membrane systems, including Newton CDM membranes such as Newton 508, Newton 508R, Newton 508 Mesh, Newton 503 and Newton 503 Mesh, Platon waterproofing membranes such as Platon P8, and Wykamol membranes including Wykamol CM8, CM8 Mesh, CM3 and CM3 Mesh, subject always to the specific membrane specification and site requirements of the project being undertaken.

Q) What are Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs and what are they designed for?
A) Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs are specialist waterproof fixing plugs designed for securing Platinum cavity drain and damp proof membranes to retaining walls and masonry substrates, while helping maintain the watertight integrity of the membrane at each fixing point. Each plug measures 10mm in diameter x 60mm long and is supplied with a fitted soft rubber sealing washer. Once hammered into a 10mm drilled hole through a membrane stud and into the wall, the washer compresses against the membrane to form a watertight seal. The plug also accepts 5mm size 10 threaded screws, allowing battens, ply board, wall ties and dry-lining systems to be fixed without creating additional penetrations through the waterproof membrane.
Q) What membranes are Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs compatible with?
A) Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs are designed for use across the Platinum membrane range and are commonly specified with Platinum CV8, CV3 and Platinum CV8 Mesh cavity drain membranes. They can also be used with Platinum damp proof membranes including PM3 and DM3 where a heavier duty water-sealed fixing is preferred. Beyond the Platinum range, they offer universal compatibility with Newton CDM membranes including Newton 508, 508R, 508 Mesh, 503 and 503 Mesh, Platon waterproofing membranes including Platon P8, and Wykamol membranes including CM8, CM8 Mesh, CM3 and CM3 Mesh. This broad compatibility makes them a flexible fixing option for installers working across different cavity drain membrane brands, subject to the membrane specification and site requirements.
Q) Where can Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs be used in waterproofing and damp proofing work?
A) Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs are designed for a wide range of below-ground and above-ground waterproofing and damp proofing applications. Typical uses include securing cavity drain membranes to retaining walls in basement waterproofing systems, cellar tanking and refurbishment projects, and fixing Platinum CV8, CV3, CV8 Mesh, PM3 and DM3 membranes to suitable masonry substrates. They are also well suited to brick and blockwork substrates, concrete retaining walls, stone and mixed masonry walls, batten and ply board fixing, dry-lining system support, and universal use with compatible Newton CDM, Platon and Wykamol waterproofing membranes. The sealed fixing detail makes them particularly appropriate where moisture, water pressure and membrane integrity are critical performance requirements.
Q) When should Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs be used instead of standard mesh membrane plugs?
A) Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs should be used instead of standard mesh membrane plugs whenever the waterproofing application involves a cavity drain membrane in a below-ground or higher moisture-risk environment where a watertight fixing detail is required. In basement and cellar applications, every fixing point through the membrane represents a potential weakness in the water management system, and a sealed plug is essential to maintain membrane continuity. Standard mesh membrane plugs are more suited to above-ground damp proofing where water pressure is not a concern. The Waterseal Brick Plug should also be chosen with Platinum PM3 and DM3 membranes in basement or demanding damp situations where a more robust sealed fixing is specifically preferred over a lighter membrane fixing, such as Platinum Mesh Fix Plugs.
Q) What are the main advantages of Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs?
A) Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs offer a strong combination of practical advantages for cavity drain membrane installations. The fitted rubber sealing washer provides a watertight seal at each fixing point, protecting membrane continuity in below-ground waterproofing. They are compatible with the full Platinum membrane range as well as Newton, Platon and Wykamol systems, providing flexible specification across different brands. The central plug core accepts 5mm size 10 threaded screws, allowing battens, ply board and dry-lining to be fixed without additional membrane penetrations. The 10mm x 60mm plug provides secure mechanical anchorage into brick, concrete, stone and masonry. The integrated washer eliminates the need for a separate sealing component during installation, supporting a consistent and efficient fixing detail throughout the project.
Q) What technical specifications do Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs have?
A) Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs measure 10mm in diameter by 60mm in length and are designed to be installed into a 10mm drilled hole formed through a membrane stud and into the masonry substrate using a 10mm SDS Drill Bit. Each plug is supplied with a fitted soft sprung rubber sealing washer that compresses against the membrane face as the plug is driven fully home using a club hammer. The central hollow core accepts 5mm size 10 threaded screws, allowing secondary fixings for battens, ply board, wall ties and dry-lining without creating additional penetrations through the membrane. The plug is suitable for use with meshed and non-meshed membranes across the Platinum, Newton, Platon and Wykamol waterproofing ranges.
Q) How are Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs installed correctly?
A) To install Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs correctly, first confirm the masonry substrate is sound and the membrane is correctly positioned and aligned. Select a membrane stud as the fixing location and use a 10mm SDS Drill Bit to drill through the stud centre and into the wall substrate to a suitable depth. Push the plug into the hole with the rubber sealing washer positioned against the membrane face, ensuring the plug sits squarely before hammering begins. Drive the plug fully home using a club hammer until completely seated. As the plug is driven in, the rubber washer compresses against the membrane to form the watertight seal. After installation, confirm the plug is secure, fully seated and the washer has compressed evenly against the membrane face.
Q) How does the rubber sealing washer on Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs work?
A) The soft sprung rubber sealing washer on Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs is fitted around the plug head and performs the critical task of creating a watertight seal around the fixing penetration. When the plug is driven fully home into the drilled hole, the washer is compressed between the plug head and the face of the cavity drain membrane. This compression forces the rubber to conform tightly against the membrane surface, closing off any path for water or moisture to pass through the fixing point. The pre-fitted design ensures the washer is correctly positioned on every plug before installation, removing the need for a separate sealing step during fixing and supporting a consistent sealed detail at each membrane fixing location.
Q) What secondary fixings can be made through Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs?
A) Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs accept 5mm size 10 threaded screws through the central hollow core of each installed plug, providing ready-made anchor points for secondary internal fixings without creating additional penetrations through the waterproof membrane. Battens, ply board, wall ties, tracking and compatible dry-lining components can all be fixed into the plug core, allowing internal wall finishes to be constructed in front of the cavity drain membrane while maintaining the waterproofing layer. This is particularly important in basement conversions and cellar waterproofing projects where the membrane must remain continuous and undamaged behind the finished internal surface. Using the plug core for secondary fixings rather than drilling new holes directly through the membrane helps protect the overall integrity of the waterproofing system.
Q) What substrates are Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs suitable for?
A) Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs are suitable for securing cavity drain and damp proof membranes to a range of masonry substrates commonly encountered in basement waterproofing and cellar tanking applications. Suitable backgrounds include brick, blockwork, concrete retaining walls, stone and mixed masonry walls, provided the substrate is sound enough to accept a 10mm drilled fixing and hold the plug securely. Concrete walls are particularly well suited, as the dense material provides reliable anchorage. For brickwork and blockwork, the substrate condition should be assessed before installation, and for stone and mixed masonry the soundness of the background should be confirmed. Any loose, badly damaged or severely deteriorated masonry must be repaired before membrane and plug installation begins.
Q) Are there practical tips for getting the best results when installing Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs?
A) For the best results when installing Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs, always fix through the centre of a membrane stud to ensure the rubber washer seats correctly against the membrane face. Keep the drill bit straight during hole formation to avoid tearing the membrane or enlarging the hole beyond 10mm. Position each plug squarely in the hole before hammering to ensure the washer compresses evenly on all sides. Drive each plug fully home and check it is completely seated and not proud of the membrane surface. For secondary fixings, always use the plug core with 5mm size 10 screws rather than drilling new holes through the membrane. Plan the fixing layout in advance to ensure consistent coverage across the full membrane area before progressing to internal finishing work.
Q) How do Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs differ from Newton MultiPlugs?
A) Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs and Newton MultiPlugs perform a very similar function within their respective cavity drain membrane systems, but there are differences in size and design specification. Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs measure 10mm x 60mm, while Newton MultiPlugs measure 10mm x 57mm, making the Platinum plug marginally longer. Both use a fitted soft rubber sealing washer that compresses against the membrane face when the plug is driven home. Both accept threaded screws through the central core for secondary fixings. The principal practical difference is that Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs are specified as the standard fixing within the Platinum Waterproof Membrane System, while Newton MultiPlugs are specified within the Newton CDM System, though the Platinum plug also carries universal compatibility with Newton, Platon and Wykamol membranes.
Q) Can Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs be used with both meshed and non-meshed membranes?
A) Yes, Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs are suitable for use with both meshed and non-meshed cavity drain and damp proof membranes. With meshed membranes such as Platinum CV8 Mesh, a tighter fixing pattern may be required to hold the membrane consistently before plaster, render or dry-lining finishes are applied, particularly where the mesh face will receive a direct wet finish. With non-meshed membranes such as standard Platinum CV8 and Platinum CV3, fewer fixings are generally sufficient as the smooth membrane face does not receive direct wet finishes in the same way. In both cases, the sealed fixing detail provided by the rubber washer remains equally important in below-ground waterproofing applications, regardless of whether the membrane has a meshed or smooth face.
Q) What role do Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs play in supporting internal finishing systems?
A) Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs play a dual role in cavity drain membrane installations by both securing the membrane and providing anchor points for internal finishing systems. Because the hollow core accepts 5mm size 10 threaded screws, battens, ply board, wall ties, tracking and compatible dry-lining components can all be mounted to the wall using the installed plugs as fixing points. This avoids the need to drill additional holes through the waterproofing membrane, preserving the continuity of the water management layer. In basement conversions and cellar refurbishment projects, this combined function is particularly valuable, as it allows a complete internal finish to be constructed in front of the membrane while keeping the waterproofing detail intact throughout the finished building work.
Q) What are the limitations of Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs?
A) Platinum Waterseal Brick Plugs have several important limitations to be aware of. They are specifically designed for cavity drain and damp proof membrane fixing applications and are not suitable for general-purpose fixing work. The watertight seal depends entirely on the rubber washer being correctly compressed against the membrane face, so partially installed plugs or misaligned fixings can compromise waterproofing integrity. The plug requires a sound masonry substrate to achieve adequate anchorage, and loose, severely deteriorated or crumbling masonry must be repaired before installation. Secondary fixings into the plug core are limited to 5mm size 10 screws, so heavier loads must be assessed separately against the membrane system specification. The fixing must always be made through a membrane stud to ensure the washer seats correctly.
