Cromar Flashing Tape

Cromar Flashing Tape is a self-adhesive bituminous sealing strip which bonds instantly to provide a permanent watertight seal.

A crease resistant lead tape, this flashing tape is used for sealing and general repairs.

Flashing Tape has a heavy duty aluminium / polyester laminate facing with a high grade bitumen backing. This gives the product tear resistance, thus aiding speed and ease of application.

Product Uses:

Flashing Tape bonds to most building materials including masonry, brick, concrete, wood, slates, metal, concrete roof tiles, glass, plastic and roofing felt.

Flashing Tape is used for the following:

  • Repairing lead flashing.

  • Sealing valley gutters.

  • Repairing leaks in guttering and drain pipes.

  • Protecting insulation for pipes and tanks.

  • Repairs to greenhouses.

  • Repairing roofing felt joints.

Surface Preparation:

Surfaces must be clean and free from dust, grease, loose materials and ponding water. Gaps greater than 3mm should be filled using an appropriate filler.

For adhesion on porous or uneven surfaces, the use of a primer is advised at a rate of 1.8m² per litre and allowed to dry. Do not leave the primer for more than 24
hours and therefore only coat an area enough for covering within the day.

Some surfaces may require a second coat of primer which should be applied once the first coat is dry.

Application Method:

Cut the Flashing Tape to the length required.

To avoid any creasing remove approximately 50mm of backing paper and carefully position the sealing strip, hold the backing paper firmly and remove it steadily from the sealing strip as the product is applied.

Smooth into position using hand pressure. Using a seam roller or rounded wood smooth to ensure good contact and expel any air, especially on overlaps and at the edges.

When laying adjacent rolls Flashing Tape should be overlapped by a minimum of 25mm for a watertight seal.

The seam must be pressed firmly with a hand roller paying particular attention at the point of overlap.

In cold weather (5°C - 15°C), application will be made easier by warming the surfaces and storing the Flashing Strip in a warm place prior to use.

Do not apply in temperatures below 5°C

Limitations:

Flashing Tape will not accommodate appreciable joint movement.

Flashing Tape is not intended to withstand any form of vehicle / foot traffic.

Avoid using Flashing Tape where it will come into regular contact with solvents and oils.

Do not use Flashing Tape in conjunction with flexible PVC, vinyl or silicone sealants.

If enclosed in a cementitious mix the product may become brittle.

Any form of acidic or alkaline liquid will attack the product and should be avoided.
