Lignum Pro D156 Timber Treatment

Lignum Pro D156 is a concentrated dual-purpose timber treatment specifically formulated to effectively combat woodworm and wood rotting fungi, including dry rot and wet rot. When diluted with water, it can yield up to 25 liters of ready-to-use product, making it a cost-effective and efficient solution for timber preservation.

This innovative treatment is based on microemulsion technology, resulting in a formulation with a particle size in the nanometer range. This feature enables the product to penetrate deeply into the timber, delivering the active ingredients to prevent or eradicate insect attacks and prevent fungal decay and staining. The fine particle size ensures thorough coverage, enhancing its efficacy against wood-boring insects and wood rotting fungi.

Lignum Pro D156's dual-purpose nature allows it to effectively combat a wide range of wood rotting fungi, including wet rot and dry rot, making it a comprehensive solution for timber protection. Additionally, the pyrethroid insecticide present in the formulation targets all life stages of wood-boring insects, ensuring complete eradication of active infestations and preventing re-infestation.

One of the standout features of Lignum Pro D156 is its virtually odorless nature, allowing for application without causing discomfort due to strong chemical odors. Its application is convenient, as it can be applied using a brush or low-pressure spray, providing flexibility in application methods while ensuring even and thorough coverage for comprehensive protection.

This water-based formulation produces a non-flammable, quick-drying product that contains zero volatile organic compounds (VOCs), making it an environmentally friendly and safe choice for timber treatment. Its quick-drying nature expedites the treatment process, allowing for shorter treatment times and minimizing disruptions.

Active Ingredients:

Permethrin 32.25g/L

Permethrin is a synthetic chemical that acts as a neurotoxin, primarily targeting the nervous systems of insects. It's a member of the pyrethroid family, which are synthetic analogs of naturally occurring pyrethrins found in chrysanthemum flowers. Permethrin affects sodium ion channels in the nerve cells of insects, causing paralysis and death, making it very effective against woodworm beetles and their larvae, which bore into wood. Its use in woodworm treatment solutions helps to eliminate existing infestations and provides a residuals effect that can deter future attacks.

Propiconazole 93.75g/L

Propiconazole is a triazole fungicide that inhibits the biosynthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This disruption impedes the growth and reproduction of fungi, making it an effective agent against a wide range of wood-rotting fungi, including those responsible for wet and dry rot. By penetrating treated wood, propiconazole provides long-lasting protection against fungi, helping to preserve the integrity and strength of the wood.

IPBC (3-Iodo-2-Propynyl Butyl Carbamate) 31.25g/L

IPBC is a broad-spectrum fungicide that works by interfering with cell division and growth in fungi, ultimately leading to their death. It is particularly effective against mold, mildew, and stain fungi, which are common issues in timber. IPBC is valued in the protective coatings industry for its ability to extend the service life of wood by preventing fungal decay. Additionally, it has low toxicity to humans and is often utilised in various products, including paints, stains, and preservation treatments.

Combined Role in Eradicating Woodworm and Preventing Fungal Decay

When these three active ingredients are combined, they create a robust dual-action treatment that targets both insect infestations and fungal decay. Permethrin effectively eradicates active woodworm infestations and deters new ones through its insecticidal properties. Propiconazole provides deep-seated control against fungal organisms responsible for wood rotting, while IPBC offers additional protection against a variety of wood-decaying fungi and surface molds.

Together, the combined properties of these active ingredients offer comprehensive protection for timber; they work synergistically to extend the life of wood by eliminating existing infestations, preventing the establishment of new insects and fungal growth, and preserving the timber against future degradation. The result is timber that is more resistant to the common causes of damage and decay, ensuring its structural integrity and appearance over time.

The active ingredients in the formulation is sourced from and supplied by manufacturers who have supported the compound through the Biocidal Products Directive [98/8 EC] or more recently the Biocidal Products Regulations [528/2012] and in compliance with Article 95 of the Biocidal Products Regulation.

Lignum Pro D156 Fungicide & Insecticide is being supported under the European Biocidal Products Regulation [528/2012]. Efficacy of this product has been proven to industry established and European standards.

Take the usual labour hygiene into account.

PPE should be worn during application. See our Safety & PPE Products.

Consult label and material safety data sheet for more information.

Surface Preparation:

Before applying Lignum Pro D156, prepare the wood surface. Ensure it is clean, dry, and free from wood dust, dirt, and other surface contaminants that could inhibit the absorption of the treatment.

This may involve brushing or vacuuming the wood surface and, in the case of existing finishes or varnishes, stripping them down so that the treatment can penetrate the wood fibres effectively.

Application Method:

The product should be applied in a one coat application using either a brush or a low-pressure spray, ensuring a thorough and even coverage across the timber.

Coverage:

  • 1L + 24L Water: 200ml/m² (1L per 5m²)

  • 2L + 23L Water: 100 - 300ml/m² (1L per 3.3 - 10m²)

A 1 Litre Concentrate (once diluted) treats 82.5m² - 250m² of timber depending on use.

Drying:

Lignum Pro D156 typically becomes touch dry within 1 hour under favourable conditions (this can vary based on wood type and environmental factors). Ensure that the space is well-ventilated and maintain a safe environment: keep unprotected persons and animals away from treated surfaces for at least 48 hours or until completely dry.

Finish:

The product leaves no visible finish and will not alter the appearance of your wood. It’s similar to applying water or solvent in effect. However, to be confident in the results, it is recommended that you apply it on a small, inconspicuous area to test and ensure the final finish meets expectations.

Stability:

Product is stable in original packaging for 2 years when stored under ambient conditions. After 2 years product should be re-tested every 6 months to ensure active ingredient levels are within specification.
