Active Ingredients:

Disodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate (5% w/w)

Disodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate is a boron-based compound that is widely recognised for its ability to combat insect infestation and fungal growth in wood. It works by penetrating the layers of wood and binding to its fibers, inhibiting the growth of insects and fungi. Disodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate is a highly effective wood preservative that protects against termites, wood boring beetles, and other wood-destroying organisms.

Benzalkonium Chloride (1-3% w/w)

Benzalkonium Chloride is a quaternary ammonium compound used in disinfectants and sanitisers. It is a surface-active agent that helps in removing dirt, grime, and other organic materials from surfaces. As a biocide, it is highly effective against a broad range of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi.

Ethandiol (5-10% w/w)

Ethandiol is a clear, colorless, and odorless liquid used in various applications, including corrosion inhibitors and disinfectants. It has high hygroscopicity and is widely used as a humectant to prevent the evaporation of moisture from the treated surface. Ethandiol also has excellent antimicrobial activity and is used in combination with other active ingredients to enhance their efficacy.

When combined, these three active ingredients work together to create a highly effective wood preservative and disinfectant solution. The Disodium Octaborate Tetrahydrate inhibits the growth of fungi and insects, while Benzalkonium Chloride effectively eliminates bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms. The Ethandiol serves as a carrier for the active ingredients, providing excellent penetration into the surface being treated while also preventing the treated surface from drying out. Together, these active ingredients make ACS Boracol 5Rh an ideal solution for treating wood and masonry against organic growth, wood-boring insects, and wood-rotting fungi.

For Treatment of Teak Decks on Yachts:

Wash to remove all dirt and coatings (some manufacturers of Teak Decking do not recommend pressure washing, please check with the manufacturer beforehand). Allow the surface to dry out until the surface is just damp.

Apply one coat of Boracol 5Rh, by brush or spray, to refusal (visibly wet on the surface, but not running off). Avoid any run off to other parts and from the boat.

Allow the surface to dry out until just damp again. Apply a second coat of Boracol 5Rh to refusal.

For Organic Growth on Masonry:

Remove any thick layers of organic growth with a suitable brush or scraper.

Some species of lichens are resistant to treatment due to their impervious surface. To optimise the effect of the biocide solution it is advisable to abrade the face of such growths prior to treatment (e.g. by wire brush).

Apply ACS Boracol 5Rh under dry conditions using a coarse spray to saturate the surface. Allow to dry thoroughly and apply a second coat if required.

Apply to refusal as coverage will be governed by the porosity and type of substrate i.e. wood, brickwork, concrete.

ACS Boracol 5Rh is suitable for application on roofs, walls timbers, paths and patios.

For Woodworm and Fungal Decay on Timbers:

Clean all wooden surfaces using a brush or vacuum.

Cover electrical installations, water tanks, stored goods and isolate adjacent areas not
requiring treatment. Lift floorboards as required and clean out debris.

ACS Boracol 5Rh can be applied to timbers by brush or coarse spray.

During spray application some respiratory / face protection will normally be required.

Under normal circumstances one coat will be sufficient, however ensure that all accessible wood surfaces are thoroughly wetted out. Any surface which rapidly absorbs ACS Boracol 5Rh should be sprayed again at the time.

In the case of timber sub-floor areas, the base of the structural walls, sleeper walls and oversite (solum) should be treated with ACS Boracol 5Rh.

Apply a second coat of ACS Boracol 5Rh after one to eight hours where there is severe fungal attack or the presence of House Longhorn beetle (Hylotropes Bajulus).

Provide adequate ventilation following treatments and maintain as long as possible after re-occupation.

Please note that any metallic surfaces (such as copper pipes) should be isolated from the treatment area as the boron salts may cause a chemical reaction causing surface pitting of the metal.

Coverage:

By Brush: 1 litre per 2m² to 4m² of surface.

By Spray: 1 litre per 2m² to 4m² of surface.

Finishing:

As long as timbers are dry, re-occupation can take place 48 hours after treatments are completed.

Floor coverings should not be laid for at least 72 hours (or longer for certain impermeable or other floor materials, e.g. vinyls, foam-backed carpets etc.) In all cases, use lining papers to protect coverings from direct contact with timbers.

Treated timbers can be over coated when dry with a range of decorative / protective paints etc. (to ensure compatibility check a small area first).
